The BMW design of a small, multi-segment rear-wheel drive motorcycle should be considered, and the concept of an automatic motor is at present considered a far-off ideal. However, it is widely held that the ‘backline-oriented’ use of motor is necessary in a motorcycle and that the need to have a relatively large engine power output for speed and braking is still within the ‘base-engine-driven’ system. A good balance between this and the more conventional use of a ‘flat’ motor would be to give a more rounded rear wheel drive and therefore a faster acceleration. However, there is no satisfactory answer for these considerations.

BMW is now actively trying to produce a ‘base-wheel-drive’ engine.
